Manual and automated instrumentation for identification of Enterobacteriaceae and other aerobic gram-negative bacilli.

Identification of gram-negative bacilli, both enteric and nonenteric, by conventional methods is not realistic for clinical microbiology laboratories performing routine cultures in today's world. The use of commercial kits, either manual or automated, to identify these organisms is a common practice. The advent of rapid or "spot" testing has eliminated the need for some commonly isolated organi...

Aerobic Gram-Negative Bacilli

A total of 434 clinical aerobic gram-negative bacillary isolates were tested against LY127935, a new 1-oxa cephalosporin, and compared with other cephalosporins, penicillins, and aminoglycosides by a broth microdilution technique. Cefotaxime (HR756), a new semisynthetic cephalosporin, and LY127935 were more active, and showed lower minimun inhibitory concentrations (rantes, -O.12 to 2.0 ,ug/ml)...

Use of the Autobac IDX system for rapid identification of Enterobacteriaceae and nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli.

The Autobac IDX system was evaluated for its ability to accurately identify 290 gram-negative bacilli from 18 different genera. Excluding isolates with a low identification probability, the overall sensitivity of the system was found to be 95.8%. Late lactose-fermenting Escherichia coli, Citrobacter freundii, and Proteus mirabilis accounted for over 90% of the misidentifications. The Autobac ID...

GRAM NEGATIVE BACILLI IN BURNS

In a period of nine months, 225 strains of Gram-negative bacilli isolated from burns were identified by a variety of tests in two burn centers in Tehran. The most common species were Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter agglomerans, Enterobacter cloacae and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Many strains of acinetobacter spp, providencia spp, proteus spp, ser...
